Seven Magic Mountain – Vegas baby!

Thanks to my fabulous momma, not long ago we were able to take our VERY FIRST solo 2-night trip without the kiddos. And where else could we go on a budget with less than 3 hour flight from Austin? Vegas, Baby!

This time we decided that with our trip to Vegas we would check out Seven Magic Mountains. This free, outdoor art installation not far out of town made renting a car in Vegas ‘worth it’ to have a little splash of magic outside the strip!

The very few times we have been through Last Vegas, we never had enough time to wander off the path and check out this unique exhibit. Now after seeing, I highly recommend this side of the road pit stop, and it’s even better if you can see it at sun rise or sunset. Arriving close to sunset the crowds were smaller from what I’ve seen online and the surrounding views were incredible!

Located about 20 miles south of the Vegas strip is a colorful, large-scale multi pillar installation by renowned Swiss artist, Ugo Rondinone. The 7 towering 30-35 ft stacks of locally sourced boulders are each painted in vivid florescent colors creating a dramatic contrast against the Mojave backdrop. They have been in place since May of 2016 and very easy to access.

Just a quick drive South of town on Interstate 15 and you’ll turn down a road that feels like you’re going the wrong way against traffic. In the end you’ll find yourself in a dirt parking lot and notice the warning signs to keep your personal items out of sight – we did see glass on the ground so beware. That being said, we felt completely safe and locked up the car, showing up just 20 min before sunset for stunning views of these towering beasts.

This was such a special place and one we will add to our check list especially if we drive back through with the kiddos. Overall a great start to our Vegas mini-getaway!
